Our mission

DCSA's approach

DCSA collaborates with carriers, shippers, industry associations and other stakeholders to develop vendor-neutral, technology-agnostic, open-source standards for IT and non-competitive business practices to ensure the interoperability of container shipping solutions. By working toward the widespread adoption of the standards, DCSA aims to establish a foundation for the seamless end-to-end exchange of digital shipping data and documentation.

Challenge

Currently, the container shipping industry is extremely fragmented in terms of data, processes and technology. This lack of alignment prevents interoperability, which hinders collaboration, decreases reliability and impacts the effectiveness of virtually every container shipping process. Poor data flows lead to limited visibility into the status and location of vessels, cargo and equipment. Manual data entry and paper-based documentation slow down processes and increase human error. For every stakeholder, a lack of access to accurate, timely digital data increases operational costs by creating inefficiency, uncertainty and waste.

Objective

DCSA envisions a fully interoperable global trade ecosystem in which all stakeholders have on-demand access to accurate, timely digital shipping data and documents. By aligning data, processes and technology, DCSA standards allow trade participants to automatically exchange critical information in real-time. This not only ensures visibility into the end-to-end cargo journey, it improves operational efficiency and lowers costs by eliminating error-prone manual processes. Ultimately, widespread adoption of DCSA standards will empower stakeholders to make more effective business decisions and improve resource utilisation, increasing the value and sustainability of all shipping operations.

Key benefits

Standards leads to the following three customer experience benefits:

  1. Greater reliability
Gain an accurate, real-time view into every event and activity along the end-to-end container journey to make shipping operations more predictable and reliable.
  2. Eliminate manual processes
Eliminate redundant and error-prone manual processes to avoid expensive mistakes and delays by automating data and documentation exchange
  3. Better business decisions
Make data-driven business decisions using accurate, timely information about shipping operations. Improve resource utilisation through real-time visibility into end-to-end cargo, vessel and equipment movement.
